How to Live with Memory. Artistic Attitudes towards Architecture and Francoism.
[SINÓPSIS] La exposición Cómo vivir con la memoria presenta una serie de obras de artistas españoles que miran a la arquitectura franquista por diversas razones, entre las que sobresale el hecho de que la arquitectura está siempre presente, nos rodea en nuestra vida diaria y configura tanto una memoria del pasado como una herencia en el presente. La arquitectura es la memoria o, entre todas las posibles, la más evidente por cotidiana. Como decía el arquitecto Rafael Moneo: “La arquitectura, el mundo formal que nos rodea, puede ser eficaz bisturí para comenzar a desentrañar la situación mental de una determinada época”. Es por ello por lo que algunos artistas contemporáneos recurren a aquella para entender algunas cuestiones del pasado cercano y para generar un difuso imaginario en relación con ella, que la resitúe conceptual, icónica, emocional y políticamente.
[ABSTRACT] The exhibition How to Live with Memory presents a series of works by Spanish artists who look at Francoist architecture for various reasons, among which the fact that architecture is always present, surrounds us daily in our lives and creates both a memory of the past and a legacy in the present. Architecture is our memory or, among all possible memories, the most obvious because it is daily perceived. As the architect Rafael Moneo said: “Architecture, the formal world that surrounds us, can be an effective scalpel to begin to unravel the mental state of a certain era”. This is the reason why some contemporary artists resort to it to understand some issues of the near past and to generate a diffuse imaginary in relation to architecture that restores it conceptually, iconically, emotionally and politically.
